Holiday Fun: How to create memories with your loved ones

Pretty Pink Roses
Hi Lovely,

Happy Holidays and a very Happy New Year to you are yours! For many we quickly begin to think how to implement resolutions to the New Year and in essence, we look forward to create a better version of ourselves. Here are my thoughts:

New Year's Resolutions--> Change the idea of making new years resolutions once a year and make it a once a day kind of thing where you have the power to change the way you live, think, and work on your truth at your own beautiful pace. Also choose to fall in love with moments more than rushing to get somewhere away from appreciating the NOW.

Unwrapping Presents
This year Christmas day falls on a full moon which hasn't happened for 38 years! What does that mean? If you recall feeling extra emotional whether happy or sad, take it in and breathe. The full moon gives us ample opportunity to appreciate the moment, expand on our individual growth, and learn how to be better, kinder people to ourselves and our fellow humans. It is a time to be grateful. Plus it was around 80 degrees in NY and my grandma flew in from Florida so we say she brought over the warm weather.

When you get together with your grandparents or any family members over the Holidays, here are some tips on how to have fun and make some sweet memories while bonding together:

-Make a homemade soup (my mom makes Russian borscht and my grandma absolutely loved it!)

Sweet Homemade Desserts
- Watch Classic Movies (check out the Turner Classic Movies Channel, my grandma's favorite) (CBS usually has annual I Love Lucy episodes on Dec. 23rd at 8pm)

- Watch old comedy movies (Funny Farm, Foul Play, Seems like old times)

- Get out the karaoke! I love karaoke but I never thought my grandma would love it too. So I printed out the lyrics for her to sing along and we started singing her favorite songs from the movie Al Jolson (April Showers, Anniversary Song)

Have a great year, keep an open heart to your emotions, and get your sweets ready with some bubbly!

Be Grateful this Holiday Season

Hi lovely,

This time of year can prove to be quite stressful for the majority of people, from shopping for presents to stocking up on food. We sometimes get lost in the real meaning of Thanksgiving. Thus, we end up taking things for granted. We even get greedy at times, when in reality, we might have everything we need right in front of us. There is a lot more to celebrating the Holidays than what is perceived. While the major things to be happy and thankful for are our health and ability to work, we can expand beyond that and delve deeper into the true meaning of the Holiday Season. Let us all take a step back this year and for many years to come during the Holiday season to really get back into the authentic holiday spirit that encourages unity and peace for us and our loved ones.

1) If you have family and friends who love you, be thankful.

Love is something so dear it should be a privilege for all. The simple pleasures can actually bring us closer together during the holidays. We get caught up during the year as we go to work, school, take care of our family, spend time with friends, and pay the bills. This cycle of busy work makes us forget the real meaning of family: spending quality time together. Sitting around the table with your loved ones is a perfect start to create that unity with each family member. We can go around the table to express what gives us meaning in life, while relishing the aroma of the scrumptious holiday pumpkin pie baking in the oven. There are many lovely stories or poems to read during the Holidays including singing hymns that are lyrically joyful that will put a smile on everyone’s face from your baby sister to your grandma. These intimate conversations will generate affirmative interminable memories that can easily be preserved and treasured for future generations to come.

2) If you live under a roof, take a moment to be thankful for that.

Having somewhere to live means the world to people who do not. On this holiday season remember the meaning of your home, your sanctuary: a form of shelter to which you can go to at anytime. Having a home is your protection; it is something to appreciate on this holiday season, let alone on a daily basis.  This fortification can supply you with a refrigerator to store food, a faucet for clean water, and a bathroom so that you can take care of your hygiene and take showers. The next time you finish taking a shower, say thank you for the ability to be able to shower in clean water. Having a roof over your head means that you have some place to sleep, and this is another privilege to be honored by. Being grateful is as simple as it seems. It is the opportunity for all of us to truly appreciate and value all that we have, at this present moment in time.

3) If you use any form of technology, be thankful as this genius invention helps us stay in closer contact with our loved ones.

Technology is precisely at our fingertips where we can conveniently scoop out information by “googling” any question imaginable. 50 years ago that was only a dream. Let us take a step back to fully appreciate the fact that the Internet invariably offers us solutions to which we would be lost without. We are often on the Internet, either on Facebook or some other social network. In reality the Internet provides us with so much more than viewing someone’s updated status; we find quick tips on healthy eating, how to fix things, etc. We use it to our disposal, so the next time you send an email to your friend or Skype chat with your grandmother, say thank you for this astounding capability.

4) If you are celebrating Thanksgiving as well as the whole holiday season, be grateful for the American history that has endowed us with the freedom that we continue to have to this day.

Our forefathers brilliantly demonstrate that by having almost nothing, we can actually realize that we have everything we need. There is a fine line between the two. Our progressive forefathers commenced a new tradition of sharing food and time with all people. So on a day like today, it is only the beginning the holiday season, which exemplifies Thanksgiving in a new light. The liberation of women and slaves as well as the enhancement of civil rights continues to flourish. Let us be thankful for the progress for peace, the ultimate goal. Happy Thanksgiving <3

Themed Scrabble Mania

Happy Wednesday Lovely!

Who doesn't love the infamously exciting board game Scrabble? It's great for get togethers and makes for some fun word trivia. That being said, it can get somewhat monotonous in time so I found a great addition to the game: Themed Scrabble! Pick a theme and then start the game trying to find only words that describe said theme. Its pretty awesome if I do say so myself! My sister and I played the first round of themed scrabble ever! The results are below and our first theme was "Town". I decided to write a poem with all the utilized words (bold words). Enjoy and go play some Scrabble!

Town Themed Scrabble

In a far away town where pearls are found

And beautiful pink pigs aimlessly wander around

Where people are kind and warm

To each mon or animal, they do no harm, with or without a heavy summer storm

Where young children play with swag and run with their super excited feet

Where all live happily and all love to eat

And after they eat whole foods they go out to dance outdoors in the summer deg weather

They are loved by each other, encouraging personal growth, content because they are stronger
together

When all the dancing is done and the musical hits have stopped playing, they go to sleep

They slumber in a peaceful state of REM without a little peep

July joy with nature, desserts, family, and fun

Welcome July! It is warm, humid, and sunny. While we typically expect the sun to be shining all month long, we have been experiencing some cloudiness and thunderstorms occasionally. Still, we should enjoy it because some seasons are lacking in rain. While the rain is commencing fairly often, the weather in terms of temperature is great. It mostly stays in the upper 80's and even enters the 90's, so that is not so bad.

Let's not forget one of the most important things in July, Independence Day. July 4th is a day that celebrates America as a nation, with liberty. This freedom must be celebrated respectfully with our friends and family. It is a great thing to be able to appreciate each other and our nation as united as can be. We struggle with this daily, within our community and within our friends. Let us take this time to just love one another and form stronger bonds to maintain peace and serenity.

The lovely July brings upon some nature for us all to enjoy. Seriously, everywhere you turn try to find some flowers or trees. They will be there, full of luscious scents that brighten up your day. The flowers that I took pictures of consisted of a mixture of red, yellow, orange, and pink. They were just gorgeous!

As the flowers are continuing to bloom vivaciously in July, and the showers soon followed within the same month, it is diverging from the traditional idea that (from the famous Al Jolson's song) "April showers bring the flowers that bloom in May". The sky does some magical things as the sunset lingers above us post rainstorm. First of all, the clouds seem so puffy and fluffy like silk clouds filled with cotton balls that are ever so light to the touch. Looks like you can easily float on top of it.
Here are two pictures that I took right before the storm. You can see the sky appears to be under some pressure from the dark and heavy filled clouds.
When the weather takes a break from the rain and thunder, it is always fun to get together with your friends and have a girls night. It is a time to celebrate yourself with your girlfriends. It is a time to reflect on the week, how hard you worked, and how you deserve to enjoy yourself. Pamper yourself generally to boost your self esteem and love yourself.
Spend some time putting on face masks that act as a pore cleaner. Pick some cute nail polish and listen to music that lifts your spirits. Have a ball and enjoy all that you are ladies! It is always wise to use the products that are high quality in health. Try not to use any artificial ingredients as those products will ruin your pores and overall health. Look for organic when possible.

When we get down to it, food is good! It tastes even better in the summertime doesn't it? So, here is a bit of the food that I compiled from my home. Here we all eat and enjoy the food and are blessed to have food on our table every day. The people in our house are very creative when it comes to food and cooking. Once person will make a yummy chicken salad and chicken cutlets, while the other will want the french fries and peaches.
Another great meal would be one of the flavors from the great Chobani Greek yogurts and apples or eggs with a slice of bread with butter. Coconut oil is great for everyone. You can take one tablespoon of it daily and use it on your skin before you go out into the bright sun.
Either way you look at it, there's lots of yummy and healthy food to go around.
When Grandpa comes over on typical Sundays, we also celebrate in style.
We get some great chocolate desserts and freeze then right before serving them. We also make a big Russian salad that is traditional for a family dinner.

Grandpa's Birthday!
Grandpa's birthday is in July so we got him a nice present with Russian chocolates and a nice handwritten card.
We always try and do nice things for birthdays especially for our close family. It is a celebration of life, love, family, and peace. In addition the whole "its the thought that counts" scenario, we try and get presents that can be used on a daily basis. Otherwise what really is the reason to get someone presents that you know and they know that they simply will not use? So, my mom's idea was to get a nice Italian black shirt and a pedometer, which basically collects calories as you walk throughout the day.
It's really great for everyone, especially my grandpa, because he loves to walk and this is an added bonus to having his long and consistent walks.Gives an extra motivation factor, if you will. Plus, it is light, little, and simple. So I would suggest you get this kind of present for someone who is actively fit and working out or exercising. Its a great asset to anyone.

Part of Grandpa's birthday means eating desserts. He loves it and enjoys a piece of sugar every now and again.
Working out for the Body and Soul

Speaking of working out, everyone should definitely invest in some dumbbells and a trampoline. These things are ideal for any workout and ultimately, you can adjust it to any level you are currently at.
What I have learned that any age you are, there is something for you to do. Jump on the trampoline either like a jump rope with two feet or one after the other. You can go as fast or as slow as you wish. You make the rules. Grab your dumbbells and alter the weights every few exercises you do so that you train your body. Do a few reps of different forms of exercises and rest until you feel the burn.
Ear Candles could be useful if you have trouble hearing, or you want to remove excess toxins.

Parental Involvement in Education

Learning and Education Unite with Parent's Help

Parental Involvement in Education
We sometimes forget the importance and value of parental involvement and support in our everyday lives in accordance with education. From the time we are born, our parents spend their lives building a safety net for us, a foundation for the basis of growing up on and for expanding ourselves into adulthood. Once we enter our first years of school, we sometimes get lost in the process of what should happen next, without the guide by our parents. Ultimately, parents want their children to grow up and be independent people. However, parental involvement in schools can greatly maximize student’s learning and overall educational experience.
Parental involvement in education is an important issue to consider today, where the world of technology is growing, expanding its’ borders beyond capacity. In the urban world, there is a sense of growth in cities and neighborhoods, expanding America geographically, economically, etc. More and more parents are working, especially moms, because of this transformation. They are going back to work to support their family and make something better for themselves, while their children are growing up in a society without their parents helping them with hw, projects, or even simple things like discussing issues or communicating in general. This ultimately creates a sense of friction and confusion for the children, as parents are essentially their direct authoritative figure and role model to look up to. Parents are children’s prime educators, as they enhance their children’s skills and overall well-being. Parents evoke aspects of home learning, which the child will eventually adapt to and utilize while transitioning into a school setting environment and beyond. However, if the parents are both working and do not make time for their children, the latter are then lost and confined to figuring things out for themselves, which might not be easy. Parent’s simple attention to their children will have a positive effect on the latter’s education and overall success in life.

Code of Ethics, the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)

In the Code of Ethics, the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) examines parental influence on children’s education. It suggests the belief that parents have a profound effect on children; it assumes a prominent value that indicates parents are basically and crucially significant. It continues to represent a foundation of working with parents as partners in care in the ethics section. The Code of Ethics ultimately signals how children learn, given the most appropriate environment, which indefinitely includes parental involvement.

Focus on the Ethics of a child's school environment with the parent's help

Maria Montessori quoted, “The idea that the school must be part of the community and involve the parents if education is to be effective”. This conceptual idea reinforces the fact that parents play an active and direct devotee role in their children’s educational experience. Before children go to school for the first time, it is their parents/caregivers who care for them and teach them “how to make it in the real world”. This aspect will be carried out into the children’s adulthood and will ultimately translate into the children being in a securely stable set of mindset within any given educational environment.
Starting early is the key, as what children are instilled in at a young age will be carried with them throughout their lifetimes. Children need to be excited to learn new things. In addition, they need to feel love and be wanted. Parents provide this crucial feature and should continue to enable communication, participation, and overall involvement with their children; even if they both work, parents often create a positive and motivational environment.
Montessori Schooling

In an article entitled” PARENT INVOLVEMENT IN SCHOOLS PRESSED”, Priscilla Van Tassel suggests that parents’ role in education needs to ultimately be scrutinized, for the children’s concern. There is an overall effort taking place to instill common communication and participation among parents and students in education. The article focuses on fostering parental involvement by initially providing them with resources and different ways of going about it. Some examples include simply taking out sometime during that day to talk with children regarding daily events, daily checking their homework, etc. These aspects should essentially benefit the children as parents become closer, and more involved.
PARENTS GUIDE CHILDREN

Ultimately, education is a process and parental involvement will positively influence children’s studies, as well as their complete educational experience. The goal is to encourage parents to partake in their children’s lives in general, which will translate into their education. There is also a parent-teacher involvement campaign which incorporates parents and teachers communicating with each other regarding the student. The article states,’ Research shows a clear correlation between parents' help at home and student achievement.'' Additionally, parents basically have first-hand knowledge of their children and their personalities, and with that they may discuss what can be done with a teacher in the school to enhance the child’s education and success.
In another article, “School to Parents: Volunteer, or Else!” Katharine Mieszkowski suggests parents need to volunteer actively, specifically in their children’s schools, and their reward would be a check, depending on the amount of hours they put in. It seems as a small bribe for the parents; however it is beneficial for the student’s sake. This active and direct approach instills a positive idea to children. They see their parents are involved with their schooling, and would feel empowered to try their best to succeed. This is a great motivator as well. The article quotes, “...to engage them with their children’s learning, even providing parents with academic training in core math and reading strategies.” As it seems, parents are to be given some homework for themselves, in terms of contributing themselves wholeheartedly to their children’s education. Their involvement would include actual learning of the children’s topics, which is as specific as it gets. The article essentially digresses to ensure the fact that it is a volunteer position, which is optional; as parents may have multiple jobs, not all parents could physically involve themselves for however many hours intended. Though, they have the choice and will be given brochures to find out about all the information. Both articles push for parental involvement in schools for the benefit of the students succeeding and growing up into motivated adults that share their parents respect.

Parental involvement is virtually evoked from the parents’ overalls sense of commitment; it is combined with their active participation and utmost devotion to bettering their children’s lives. Parental involvement is more than just checking children’s’ hw. It is a lifestyle that parents and children should essentially adjust to. It builds communication, bonds, friendship, and trust. All of these characteristics enhance better child-parent relationships for the future.
Communication is the first step. Schools are the facilitators for children’s studies. The principals may be the mediators in aiding with the guidance. In an article, Duncan writes, “Principals are key contributors to helping parents and other educators understand each other” (Duncan, 1992, p. 13). This harmonious situation should accommodate both parents and teachers so they may efficiently work together and find ways to help their children succeed. In a research regarding parental involvement, Loucks writes, “Research shows that parent involvement in the school results in improved student achievement” (Loucks, 1992, p. 19). The previous evidence illustrates a positive correlation between parental involvement in schools and students achievement and educational success.

When parents get the chance to be fully involved with their children’s educational endeavors, they promote a feeling of control over their lives. This creates boundaries for parents to go beyond, and internally and externally motivate their children to work hard and succeed. Parents need to create goals, and follow through on them. Overall, the prospect is geared towards early involvement. This sets a foundation in elementary schools, where children will easily grasp the various concepts of how to pursue their lifestyles.
Parents first need to be aware of the situation of being involved. Then, they have to take direct action and make decisions on improving their children’s’ lifestyles at home first. They should create a home environment that encourages learning, communicate on certain expectations for the children’s achievements, and become involved with the child’s education at school as well as in the community. While these steps give the impression of evoking tedious relinquishes, they all translate to positive and comforting results for the children and the parents. Ultimately, parental involvement early in the educational process results in more powerful effects.

As stated before, parents need to start early, take initiative, and get involved. Speak with your children, interact with them, discuss idea with the principals and teachers at school, encourage intellectual growth, give them support, and love your children. Teachers should contribute as well, discussing issues with parents on how to better the situation, and be open minded on accepting different forms of educating the child. The principal will have the role as a mediator, working with the parent and teachers to try and resolve any conflicts, misunderstandings, miscommunication, etc. Last but not least, the child will have the role of listening, processing, communicating, and trying his or her best to talk openly and honestly with the parent/teacher/principle. With an open communicating vessel, many things can be accomplished. The schools may have PTA meetings more often, schedule school bake sales for parent-teacher interactions weekly, and have parent-teacher conferences every month as opposed to every 3-5 months. This will greatly benefit the children involved and will encourage intellectual growth and educational achievement. This way of showing love is unconventional and truly fulfilling. It is active, direct, instilling, and effective. Children will learn from their parents/teacher/principals and vice verse. Thus, parental involvement is an immeasurable act that will create positive results and promote children’s overall success.

May Moments

May is not Mundane

1st pic: Playing fun card games over the weekend, which consisted of spit, stupid, and piggy-wiggy on a stick. I know, the titles of these games is a bit odd, but they are fun and enjoyable once you get the hang of it. Time to get pumped up, competitive, and psyched!

2nd-3rd pics: The trees and flowers and blooming beyond control, as spring is surmounting! Almost overnight we see these little buds extend into full blown beautiful wild pink flowers.

4th pic: A huge storm came out last night and today early morning, so much so that all of the pretty flower pedals from the trees fell down. There was a lot of wind and that must have blew all of the pedals off of the trees. They are so delicate and appealing, I decided to gather some images of them. There is a certain scent and feel in the air after the rain storm. It seems effervescently soothing and relaxing. Plus, we haven't gotten much rain storms here, so it was about time!

5th-6th pics: Beautiful clear blue sky with marshmallow-like clouds.

7th-8th pics: Picked some wild flowers growing in the garden and put them in a base with water to sustain their elegance and vitality. Spring has sprung with these gorgeous scented yellow flowers blooming among the green green grass from the ground.

Birthday fun, family and food!

When there is a birthday coming up, we get ready with lots of yummy homemade food, desserts, drinks, loved ones, and presents, cheers! ❤

Happy Mothers Day! ❤

Happy Mothers Day! Today is just a reminder that every day we must appreciate all of the unconditional love that our moms keep giving us! ❤
